I relished the story and admired the characters but the plot failed to deliver much impact. The ending itself leaves little to desire. It's as if the writers do not quite know if they want to write a second season or just let it be.
No matter, Thousand Years For You left us with something to ponder. It will make you realize that love can not only exist between different races but that it can last indefinitely, thousands of years if need be. Love can go beyond biases, misunderstandings, greed and the need for survival. It can stop wars, and can start one too. It can inspire one to continue to hope, to keep the faith, to wait and to fight for the beloved.
This story is filled with supernatural elements from start to finish. It is also filled with the realities of human existence. The daily toil, quest for survival, communities, culture, traditions. It is also where values of loyalty, persistence and filial piety can be discerned. Watching this story reminds me of how important and powerful a community is. That when you belong to one, you will always be supported and protected. You are loved.
The male lead is superb with a long list of main roles in several series under his belt. I think he is perfect for the character of the general, distinguished and respectable, strong and powerful. With a regal aura, I was not surprised he turned out to be a prince too.
His female counterpart is also impressive. She looks ethereal when appearing as a Goddess and exudes earthiness when in human form. I also like how she embodied her characters in this series. She is a naturally good actress and I'm actually inclined to look out for her other projects.
The rest of the characters are on point too, especially the second couple and the father figures. Even the nameless community members deserve due recognition. Overall, they make the story essentially good.
I really could not pinpoint exactly what went wrong. Maybe what's lacking is the x-factor and the ending most everyone wants- a happy one. This is my subjective take on things, with my biases and personal preferences so it could have a different impact on you, who knows? As for me, I would give this series a rating of 7 out of 10.
