The Love You Give Me is one of the few modern Chinese dramas that I took time to watch. Not because of the actors involved nor of the popularity but simply because the story seemed interesting. True enough, it was endearing in its simplicity. The storyline is of fate, misunderstandings, and the choices people make. It is very relatable in the sense that we all make choices in life that we either regret or relish. And there are people in our lives that no matter what happens, or how they have hurt us, will always have a special place in our hearts.

It all started with a childhood promise and a mistaken identity. Our female lead was asked with a dying wish to meet up with our male lead. Love bloomed between them. They spent many wonderful times together until the truth came into light and everything fell apart.

Many years later, special circumstances brought them together once again. Unbeknownst to the guy, they actually produced a child together who is unfortunate to have gotten the same congenital heart disease that his father suffered from. The story showcases the difficulties of people who have this health issue and how difficult this situation can also be for the people who really care for them.

The supporting cast are also commendable. They certainly add drama and color to this series with their good looks and convincing acting. They are also instrumental in giving contrast to the different outlooks in life people have. We do share some values and beliefs but we also differ in a lot of ways. After all, we grow up in different circumstances and timelines and the totality of our personality has been molded uniquely.

The story is heartbreaking at times but humorous in most scenes. You can certainly feel the love between the two leads even when they try to deny and sometimes suppress their feelings. Even when supposedly better options for them show up, they always choose each other. The glue that binds them together though is their child in this series. He is endearingly smart and so cute he will melt your heart with a simple smile.

Family values, resilience, strength that comes from having to fight for your right to live are all in this story interwoven with great hope that everything in life has a chance to be better. One can become a business tycoon from being an orphan. A single mother can become the wife of a tycoon who will protect her at all cost.

Indeed, there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel. When love survives, happiness is guaranteed.
