There are people from our childhood that we really cannot forget. Some become the end game and truly, when you love someone, feeling responsible and protective towards that person becomes an automatic thing.
This, for me, is the essence of this story. A love so sweet that started when they were very young and developed into maturity the second time they were given a chance to meet and be together. There is of course a second male lead, who as observed in many dramas nowadays, are really at par if not better in some ways compared to the first male lead. He is ideal and takes care of the female lead so well that you cannot honestly choose right away between the two guys. However, in this series, the female lead is so clear in her choices and that's also a good thing but not really relatable to some women.
There is also another couple as usual in dramas. Although I understand that to point out the truth that love simply cannot be put into certain standards, I could not help feeling sorry for the guy. They simply do not look good together with the girl. Maybe there are matches that defy convention and who you ultimately end up is exactly who you need to be with. In their case though, I just could not feel any chemistry and that's a total let down for me. Also, the girl's demands seem to be symptoms of obsessiveness rather than true love.
Another couple has emerged in the later part of the story and they are more adorable for me. It's an IN thing actually because more and more couples with considerable age gaps are braving the judgment of society just to be true to themselves and give themselves a chance to be happy.
This story also deals with the ambitious generation, the good and the bad deals of the financial world and the fact that wherever you are in the corporate world, connections always matter. It is also very evident that to survive in a tough environment, your relationships with the people around will see you through.
The plot is actually simple, the pacing not so good. I think the story could have been written better with more surprises to look forward to. It's also way too long. It could have been wrapped up on the 30th episode but they still continued it and made the second male lead look too pathetic, vengeful, and pitiful. Instead of giving him a good image until the end, they made him look like a dullard and oblivious to his situation. To be fair though, the ending is to my liking.
Anyway, if you are an avid fan of both Luo Yun Xi and Bai Lu, you won't regret watching this series. Give Love is Sweet a chance and you might just enjoy it.
