This is another historical fantasy drama that's very interesting to me because of the presence of these mighty mythical creatures- dragons.
The male lead looks divine while the female lead, though touted as the best looking gal in their place, doesn't really do justice to her title. I'm not surprised though as this seems to be the trend in Chinese dramas. The supporting characters are mostly endearing to viewers, especially the crown prince and his lady love.
So it was told that due to the little dragon's kindness of lending his dragon scale to a little girt to save humanity, he lost it and thus was forced to stay on the land for over 500 years. Until he met a woman who has the scale on her, serving as her heart. Just as the hope of returning home surfaced, he realized there are forces at sea who do not want him back. Thus, the story revolves.
This story also gave credence to the myth that royalties come from or at least guided by a dragon. This one in particular became the master teacher to all the monarchs in that kingdom for hundreds of years. He does not age so they had to orchestrate some happening to usher his exit and eventual re-entry in that kingdom.
Our main male though, is truly a blessing to humanity. Many times sacrificing himself to save the world. He values people and nature and uses his power for the good. He is also selfless in that he is willing to not go home to the sea so his lady love can stay alive.
This story portrays the value of friendships, filial piety and the need to accept defeat even in the pursuit of happiness in love. It shows the importance of being responsible for all your actions and decisions. It also shows that love between different races is not only possible, it can also bring about miracles.
Eternal Love Rain also shows how all creatures are inter-connected and the need for everyone to unite and be compassionate especially in the face of calamities. How, if everyone contributes form their own resources, then there will be more than enough for everyone and more and more people will benefit from it.
This series is relatively short compared to most Chinese dramas at only 24 episodes but I believe it can still be shortened. Nevertheless, it is worth watching if only so one can appreciate the power of love and persistence.
