As with some other Chinese dramas, it's really perplexing to me why a plain looking girl would be cast as the female lead and be surrounded with stunningly good looking male leads- first, second and even third. I wonder if there are some psychological reasons regarding this kind of pattern or simply because there are more handsome, talented male in the industry than their female counterparts. No matter the reason, I hope to see more pairings of equal standard beauty in the series to come.
Anyway, in a school setting, the values of friendship, camaraderie and cooperation will be very evident as always. Relationships would easily flourish. Times would be great and life in general would be of a special period. This particular school is teemed with talents and special students. They have princes and a princess at their midst, the lead male and lead female themselves and most of the important characters of the series.
Just one thing that disappointed me- the Dragon Emperor did not meet even once with his nephew, our male lead portrayed by Xu Kai. It would have been some sort of closure for him who have not known, nor acknowledged before his mother's side of the family.
Anyhow, this story primarily reminds me to never judge others. You will never know the motives of others in being present in your life. One also has to be open to all kinds of possibilities including the fact of one's origin. Some mistakes also were meant to be for the good, only to realize later on that one's way is at times, not really the best way.
Dance of the Sky Empire also reminds me that love can truly be present at one moment and be absent in another. Both times are genuine and thus it is true that we do decide how to feel in a given moment, no matter the outside interference.
It is also true that not all powerful ones do the bullying. Most often, it is those who are insecure in their capabilities that find it hard to trust and so in the smallness of their minds decide to hurt others in the name of so-called "precautionary measures".
This is a complicated story but one of forgiveness and focusing on the big picture. It is easy to take revenge for sufferings inflicted upon us but it takes a bigger courage to let go of the past so that all parties involved can have a fresh new start.
