MODERN

This modern series is a bit dragging for sure but A Beautiful Lie also showcased how wonderful loving and being loved can be. The many different love stories embedded in the story are proof that no matter the circumstances when one finds true love it will somehow work out in the end. This story is far from a happy ending for our main couple but even until the very end, their love still exists, albeit in perhaps a different dimension.
Along the way, you would see how deeply established the bond is between our two main leads. The male lead, Chen Xing Xu, also portrayed the male lead of The Starry Love and My Boss. Our female lead, Zhang Yu Xi, also starred in Stand by Me and Intense Love. From their school days as young kids until they parted ways and met again as young adults, they somehow connect very well. Even going through the same mental illness, they somehow share a fate, the female lead hallucinating the male lead after he was untimely killed off-screen. So sad but that's how strong and resilient their love is.
The second couple in this series also has a story that is truly interesting and I think more relatable to most of us. I know so few of us could get to partner with a celebrity but that's not what I meant by "relatable". I just believe that a lot of people mistakenly leave a beloved for one or both of these reasons. One, insecurity because you believe you can never be good enough. Two, your pride could not take the beating of comparison and people looking down at you because your partner seems to be among the stars while you are wallowing in the sufferings of humanity. Rather than doing things on the assumption that it's for the best of the other, honesty might actually be the best solution. So I think it's best that any and all things can be discussed with your beloved.
Our third couple has a chill love story. It is more modern though in its approach. The girl, having been exposed to a lonely childhood because of her parents' separation, does not want to get married. The doctor partner coming from a solid marital bliss is ever ready to settle down. They have different values but common goals- that is to be together, so why not?
Around all these couples are also characters that helped shape the story into a cohesive and solid one. Everyone made contributions towards making this series a good one. The great friendships that connect and sustain all these characters are something truly remarkable. Truly, it is important to choose your friends wisely for they will determine the kind of life you will lead somehow.
I stand on my original assessment though. This is a good story tackling on this time's prevalent issue on mental health and how this can be treated and supported towards recovery. The story is too lengthy though that made it dragging. This should have been presented shorter than 36 episodes but then so be it.
